Artificial Intelligence (AI) has come a long way. From chatbots to virtual assistants and even self-driving cars, AI can make our lives easier. But when it comes to content creation, AI-generated content hasn’t been widely accepted by companies.

The Explosion of AI and Content Generation

As a professional freelance copywriter, I well remember when AI content-generation tools burst onto the writing landscape. Many companies rushed to drop their copywriting contracts and use an in-house team member and AI tools to create blog posts, articles, web pages, newsletters, and more. Copywriters worldwide lamented lost jobs, reduced workloads and revenue, and sunken opportunities.

More clients are now hiring experienced copywriters to undo garbage other writers have submitted using AI writing tools.

However, a quick review on LinkedIn and other professional job platforms revealed many opportunities for copywriters are still available. Numerous marketing firms and other companies were and are hiring freelance copywriters to create online content. A New Trend in Copywriting

Has there been a downturn in copywriting demand? It certainly seems so since many formerly busy clients of mine are sending less work and struggling to generate more. However, I’ve had success gaining new clients who value fresh, original writing on various topics — clients who still pay top-dollar rates. And these clients are clear on their expectations: absolutely NO AI-generated copy is tolerated.

In fact, in a strange new trend, two of my newer clients are paying me well to redo numerous pieces of AI-generated content from previous writers. Of course, among the newest AI tools are algorithms that detect AI-generated content — and companies are using them to ensure they get the best original quality…
